Notice is given under section 65 of the Local Electoral Act 2001 that no nominations were received for the Chatham Islands Council by-election. As a result, the vacancy remains unfilled.
Section 65(4) of the Act provides that:"If no valid nominations are received, the electoral officer must so declare, and the vacancy continues to exist until it is filled in accordance with this Act."
The Council will take the necessary steps under the Local Electoral Act 2001 to fill the vacancy. Further information regarding the process and any future election dates will be provided in due course.
