Chatham Islands Council gives notice that, in accordance with s55(2) of the Resource Management Act 1991, the Chatham Islands Resource Management Document [PDF, 3.2 MB] has been amended to incorporate changes to policy 3.22 of the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2020 (NPS-FM 2020).
On 24 October 2024, a change to the NPS-FM 2020 was gazetted and came into force on 25 October 2024. The change concerns NPS-FM 2020 Policy 3.22(1)(e)(i) which relates to natural inland wetlands and an exception to their protection when necessary for the purpose of the extraction of minerals, including coal.The change must be incorporated into relevant plans, without using the process set out in Schedule 1 of the Resource Management Act (1991). Accordingly, Chatham Islands Council has amended the Chatham Islands Resource Management Document.
