We all love the Chathams and the Island lifestyle, but did you know we have an investment strategy that talks to the love we have for our community and a well-being approach towards investment priorities for our place?

The Chatham Islands Investment Strategy was first produced in 2019 and is currently being reviewed, and now you have the chance to get involved.

Chatham Islands Council, Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust, Hokotehi Moriori Trust and Chatham Island Enterprise Trust are working on the refresh of the strategy and during March we welcome your input, either by completing the online survey(external link) or a paper copy which will be put in your post box.

The investment strategy has five outcome areas which cover the following topics:

  • infrastructure
  • environment
  • economic
  • social
  • and cultural.

Taking a well-being approach, it recognises that success in each of the outcome areas will lead to success in the other parts of the community.

Each outcome area has a set of focus areas — these are priority investment areas identified by the community for the next four years.

In 2019, there were three flagship projects which were prioritised as they were seen as key drivers towards improving overall well-being. These were the airport runway extension, telecommunications connectivity, and renewable energy.

As we look to develop the refreshed strategy, we will be checking in to see if these priorities are still important to you, or if there is something else you think is more important.
