Chatham Islanders – here is your chance to ask scientists questions about tsunamis!
Tsunami scientists from Tohoku University in Japan, the University of New South Wales, and NIWA have been studying evidence for pre-historic tsunamis on Chatham Island, most recently at Okawa Point.
Come along to the Norman Kirk on Thursday 17 November at 7.30pm to see some pictures and hear some stories of what these scientists have been up to. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Helen Jack, a tsunami scientist from Environment Canterbury is also helping with mapping tsunami evacuation zones and you can hear our progress with that and how far you might need to sail or run to get out of the way.
