News Update:
The (then) Minister of Local Government, Hon Nanaia Mahuta has written to the Chatham Islands Council confirming continued financial assistance for 2008/09 onwards.
Details are as follows:
- 2008/09 - $1.828m
- 2009/10 - $1.613m
- 2010/11 - $1.878m
- 2011/12 and outyears $1.914m.
The funding is provided to assist the Council to:
- fulfill its statutory regional and territorial local government responsibilities within required timeframes;
- comply with all local authority statutory requirements within required timeframes;
- not be in financial deficit in any financial year;
- meet all reporting requirements of the Department of Internal Affairs to allow continuation of the financial assistance package.
