Environmental

The environmental functions of the Chatham Islands Council are carried out through the requirements of the Resource Management Act 1991. The Act requires the Council to monitor and report on the state of the Chatham Islands’ environment – its land, air, water and coastal resources.

The Council wants to maintain and sustain natural resources to protect the environment from threats that could be detrimental to the community now and in the future.
